Links to Other Related Institutions
The following is a list of organizations in the region and beyond, that have partnered with (or are currently partnering with) the eCentre in the delivery of regional training activities, have contributed experts or expertise for events and/or regularly participate in eCentre programmes.
- UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA).
UNOCHA has a mandate to provide coordination to improve effectiveness in response to complex emergencies and natural disasters. It supports eCentre activities through the provision of information, coordination of external expertise and provision of expert speakers.
- World Food Programme (WFP).
WFP is the UN’s frontline agency in the global fight against hunger. WFP supports eCentre activities by providing expertise and sometimes experts as participants and speakers in workshops.
- United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
UNICEF works for the rights, survival, development and protection of children. It supports eCentre activities by providing expertise and sometimes experts as participants and speakers in workshops.
- United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
UNDP is the UN’s global development network and lead programme in the area of development. It supports eCentre activities by providing expertise and sometimes experts as participants and speakers in workshops.
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
In 2000, MoFA Japan contributed to the genesis of the eCentre through a generous contribution made through the Trust Fund for Human Security. MoFA remains active with the eCentre, regularly providing participants and expertise for training events.
- Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID). The Australian Government's overseas aid program is a federally funded program that aims to reduce poverty in developing countries. The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) manages the program. The aim of the program is to assist developing countries reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development, in line with Australia's national interest. In 2008, AusAID supported eCentre activities through a financial contribution.
- Japanese Ground Self Defense Forces
JGSDF is the ground component of Japan’s armed forces. In 2006 the eCentre participated in JGSDF’s workshop on Multinational Cooperation in Asia and the Pacific (MCAP), and several JGSDF officers have participated in eCentre workshops.
- Royal Thai Army (note: site in Thai only).
The Royal Thai Army provides facilities, personnel and logistics to support real-life training simulations at the Fort Thanarat Infantry Centre, Pran Buri, Thailand.
- ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM).
ACDM is a sub-committee of the ASEAN Secretariat that coordinates regional activities aimed at developing more disaster-resilient nations and communities. In 2006 the eCentre partnered with ACDM to deliver a workshop on regional capacity building in disaster management response and preparedness, and a follow-on event is planned for 2007.
- National Institute for Disaster Management of India (NIDM).
NIDM is India’s nodal Centre for human resource development in the area of disaster management. In 2006 the eCentre partnered with NIDM to deliver a workshop on emergency and disaster management, and a follow-on event is planned for 2007.
- United Service Institution of India (USI). USI’s charter is to further the knowledge, education and training of India’s defense services. USI supports eCentre activities by providing expertise and expert officers as participants and speakers in workshops.
- Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (CHD).
CHD is a Geneva-based organization that is dedicated to the promotion of humanitarian principles, the prevention of conflict, and the alleviation of its effects through dialogue. CHD has provided advise, expertise and materials in support of eCentre training on humanitarian negotiation.
- University of Hawai’i.
The public system of higher education in Hawai‘i, The University of Hawai‘i System includes dozens of educational, training and research centers across the Hawaiian Islands. In 2006 the eCentre and UNHCR Tokyo partnered with the University to support a course in disaster management and humanitarian assistance offered through teleconference.
- Center of Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance(COE-DMHA).
The mission of COE-DMHA is to promote effective civil-military management in international humanitarian assistance, disaster response and peacekeeping through education, training, research and information programs. eCentre and COE-DMHA have participated in and provided expertise for each other in regional workshops and events.
