Organizational Profile:

Activities

Amnesty International is a worldwide voluntary movement of people who campaign for human rights. We are Independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion. Our mission is to encourage people throughout the world to promote and protect the human rights set out in the Universal Declarations of Human Rights.

The main focus of its campaigning is:

  • Release all prisoners of conscience
  • Ensure fair and prompt trial for political prisoners
  • Abolish death penalty, torture and cruel treatment of prisoners
  • End extra judicial executions and “disappearances”
  • Defend the rights of refugees and asylum seekers, and against the return of refugees to countries where they may be at risk of serious human rights violations and abuse
  • Against the participation of children in armed conflict
  • Against the Military, security and police transfers, including weapons and training where these can reasonably be assumed to contribute to human rights abuses in the recipient country
  • Against the manufacture, use or transfer of indiscriminate weapons of warfare, especially anti-personnel land mines
  • Against excessive use of force by law enforcement officials

Amnesty International promote general and specific human rights issues such as above through:

- Human Rights Protection Activities:

  • Letter writing campaign for specific issues and individuals
  • Launch campaigns focused on specific issues and countries
  • Release various information through press release, publications, and other media works such as internet

- Public Relations and Publishing:

  • Publish monthly news letter
  • Hold various events such as art exhibitions, seminars, workshops, and conventions which related to human rights issues

- Fundraising and Sales for Activities:

  • Launch fund-raising campaigns
  • Sale Amnesty products
  • Hold music concerts and bazaars
