Food Aid
Management (FAM) was created in 1989 by five U.S. private voluntary
organizations to "promote the efficient and effective use of food aid
resources to help alleviate hunger and contribute to food security".
The FAM membership has grown to 17 U.S. PVOs and FAM enjoys observer status
with the World Food Programme and EuronAid.

International Rescue Committee

At the
outbreak of an emergency, IRC provides sanctuary and lifesaving
assistance-rapidly delivering critical medical and public health services,
shelter and food. Once a crisis stabilizes, they set up programs to enable
refugees to cope with life in exile. Through training, education and
income-generating programs, they help refugees acquire new skills to become
self-sufficient.

New Zealand Digital Library (University of Waikato, NZ)

The New
Zealand Digital Library project is a research programme at The University
of Waikato whose aim is to develop the underlying technology for digital
libraries and make it available publicly so that others can use it to
create their own collections.

provides access to several large document collections including
humanitarian and development information. Scroll down to "humanitarian
and UN collections” which includes the WHO –PAO Disaster Virtual Library and numerous other
libraries. Links to guides and manuals on health, medical, food, water,
nutrition, and development are downloadable. Search by subject, title, or
organization.

The Office of US Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA)

Overseas Development Institute is a leading independent think-tank on
international development and humanitarian issues in Britain.
Website
provides access to information about the Institute, research and
policy programs, and publications.
Many subjects covered including human rights, staff security, education,
health and nutrition, and management. The site is searchable and maintains
a good links directory. The Humanitarian Policy Group(HPG) (located on home
page) concerns policy and practice in the response to conflict,
instability, disasters and associated humanitarian needs. HPG offers access
to the pages below as well as other publications,

Practice Reviews. The Good Practice Reviews are commissioned reviews
prepared by recognized specialists on different sectors (water, health,

Disasters is a major, peer-reviewed quarterly journal reporting on
all aspects of disaster studies, policy and management. The journal
maintains a balance between academic papers, field reports from relief
