Searchable website offers daily updates on complex emergencies and natural disasters, and has extensive country background information. Large Directory of Humanitarian agencies provides contact information and websites for UN agencies, Governmental organizations, NGOs, academic and resource organizations. Library provides an online archive of humanitarian, human rights and development reference documents related to crisis situations and humanitarian response.

Search by organization, date, country, or keyword. Keywords include refugee, emergency management, shelter/site planning, logistics, early warning, and coordination. Links to other training databases and funding resources are also available.

http://www.reliefweb.int/hcic/ Humanitarian Community Information Center (HCIC) promotes and facilitates coordination by serving as an information focal point for local and international NGOs, UN and other inter-governmental agencies, donors and KFOR for Kosovo relief operations. Their website offers information on a variety of topics related to the Kosovar effort including access to their GIS/Map and Data coordination unit, which provides information on pcodes, GIS and other map technologies.

Operational and technical information includes manuals, documents, reports, and links to related sites and suppliers. Trainings provides information on different trainings, conferences, and provides access to training manuals (some on line, others are orderable).

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)

The central role of UNICEF in emergencies is to act as an advocate for children. The organization believes that humanitarian interventions should be integrated with ongoing programs directed toward children and therefore focuses its assistance on such interventions as health, nutrition, immunization, education, water and sanitation.

On the left side tool bar several points of interest are emergencies, research and evaluation, and supply. Research and evaluation offers information about UNICEF’s division of Evaluation, Policy, and Planning, and its activities. Supply offers catalogue of products UNICEF can supply to registered procurement customers, information on how to become registered, and more general information on these activities.

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

UNDP is the United Nations' principal provider of development advice, advocacy and grant support. In addition to coordinating international humanitarian assistance in crisis situations, UNDP provides a bridge between emergency relief and long-term economic development. In societies wracked by conflict, UNDP supports national and regional reconciliation; greater participation by women in peace-building and democratization; reintegration of refugees and displaced persons; reconstruction of war-torn communities; and demobilization and reintegration of former soldiers into civil society.

Press releases and annual reports are available online. Human Development reports, which assess people’s well being by country, are also available as are occasional papers.
