The Humanitarianism
and War Project reviews the experience of the international community in responding
to complex emergencies around the world during the post-Cold War period. It
examines the interplay between humanitarian action and political-military
forces. Relying primarily on the data gathered from interviews with those
involved in crises, it frames recommendations to improve the functioning of
the world's humanitarian system.

Journal encompasses
all aspects of humanitarian assistance, from early warning and emergency provision
to post-conflict peace building and the transition to development. This is
inclusive of law, politics, the military, logistics, and the work of
national and international organizations.

policy reports, manuals, and evaluations. Wide range of subjects
including coordination, ethics, military, mental health, human rights,
staff security, and gender.

The New Zealand
Digital Library project is a research programme at The University of
Waikato whose aim is to develop the underlying technology for digital
libraries and make it available publicly so that others can use it to
create their own collections.
Website provides access
to several large document collections including humanitarian and
development information. Scroll down to “humanitarian and UN collections”
which includes the WHO –PAO Disaster Virtual Library and numerous other
libraries. Links to guides and manuals on health, medical, food, water,
nutrition, and development are downloadable. Search by subject, title, or
organization.

The Overseas
Development Institute is a leading independent think-tank on international
development and humanitarian issues in Britain.
Website provides access
to information about the Institute, research and
policy programs, and publications.
Many subjects covered including human rights, staff security, education,
health and nutrition, and management. The site is searchable and
maintains a good links directory. The
Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG) (located on home page) concerns policy
and practice in the response to conflict, instability, disasters and
associated humanitarian needs. HPG offers access to the pages below as well
as other publications, activities,
and links.

Practice Network, also under HPG, offers an extensive link

and degree courses relevant to the humanitarian sector. Publications
page offers all HPN articles from 1994 onwards, together with full-text
versions of Network Papers and abstracts (full texts are orderable) of Good
Practice Reviews. The Good Practice Reviews are commissioned reviews
prepared by recognized specialists on different sectors (water, health,
planning, security, food, registration) or activities within the
humanitarian sector.
Refugee Studies Centre

The Refugee Studies
Centre (RSC) is part of the University of Oxford's International
Development Centre at Queen Elizabeth House. Its objectives are to carry
out multidisciplinary research and teaching on the causes and consequences
of forced migration; to disseminate the results of that research to policy
makers and practitioners, as well as within the academic community; and to
understand the experience of forced migration from the point of view of the
affected populations.

debate on the most immediate issues facing refugees and internally
displaced people and those working with them. Articles, research abstracts,
conference reports and news items, present practice-oriented findings and
analyse policy issues. Articles from FMR and its predecessor the
Refugee Participation Network Newsletter are available on the web. Topics
have included children and youth, role of military in humanitarian work,
education and training, and reproductive health. Also find information on
news, events, and links.
