The New Zealand
Digital Library project is a research programme at The University of
Waikato whose aim is to develop the underlying technology for digital
libraries and make it available publicly so that others can use it to
create their own collections.
Website provides access
to several large document collections including humanitarian and
development information. Scroll down to “humanitarian and UN collections”
which includes the WHO –PAO Disaster Virtual Library and numerous other
libraries. Links to guides and manuals on health, medical, food, water,
nutrition, and development are downloadable. Search by subject, title, or
organization.

Development Institute is a leading independent think-tank on international
development and humanitarian issues in Britain.
Website provides access
to information about the Institute, research and
policy programs, and publications.
Many subjects covered including human rights, staff security, education,
health and nutrition, and management. The site is searchable and maintains
a good links directory. The Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG) (located on home
page) concerns policy and practice in the response to conflict,
instability, disasters and associated humanitarian needs. HPG offers access
to the pages below as well as other publications,
activities,
and links.

Reviews. The Good Practice Reviews are commissioned reviews prepared by
recognized specialists on different sectors (water, health, planning,
security, food, registration) or activities within the humanitarian sector.

The Refugee Studies
Centre (RSC) is part of the University of Oxford's International
Development Centre at Queen Elizabeth House. Its objectives are to carry
out multidisciplinary research and teaching on the causes and consequences
of forced migration; to disseminate the results of that research to policy
makers and practitioners, as well as within the academic community; and to
understand the experience of forced migration from the point of view of the
affected populations.

for debate on the most immediate issues facing refugees and internally
displaced people and those working with them. Articles, research abstracts,
conference reports and news items, present practice-oriented findings and
analyse policy issues. Articles from FMR and its predecessor the Refugee
Participation Network Newsletter are available on the web. Topics have included
children and youth, role of military in humanitarian work, education and
training, and reproductive health. Also find information on news, events,

humanitarian emergencies and natural disasters – designed specifically to

offers daily updates on complex emergencies and natural disasters, and has
extensive country background information. Large Directory
of Humanitarian agencies provides contact information and websites for
UN agencies, Governmental organizations, NGOs, academic and resource
organizations. Library provides an online archive of humanitarian,
human rights and development reference documents related to crisis
situations and humanitarian response.

activities and manuals of many different organizations. Search by
organization, date, country, or keyword. Keywords
include refugee, emergency management, shelter/site planning, logistics,
early warning, and coordination. Links to other training databases and

Humanitarian Community Information Center (HCIC) promotes and facilitates
coordination by serving as an information focal point for local and
international NGOs, UN and other inter-governmental agencies, donors and
KFOR for Kosovo relief operations. Their website offers information on a
variety of topics related to the Kosovar effort including access to their GIS/Map
and Data coordination unit, which provides information on pcodes, GIS
and other map technologies.

the provision of emergency telecommunications during relief operations. Includes
an introduction to general information on emergency telecommunications and
links. Operational and technical information includes manuals, documents,

training manuals (some on line, others are orderable).

the United Nations to lead and coordinate international action for the
world-wide protection of refugees and the resolution of refugee problems.
Web site provides
information about UNHCR, programs, and activities; as well as general
refugee information and news. The website is worth browsing on one’s
own and the home page is pretty descriptive for its categories.
The world offers map and text-based
access to country-specific information about refugees. Issues
offers a topic-specific route to articles about refugee children, the
environment, women's issues. Evaluation and
Policy Analysis offers access to UNHCR reports that can be searched by
country, theme, or date. Statistics
related to crisis situations and UNHCR and partner efforts are also
available.
