The New Zealand Digital Library project is a research programme at The University of Waikato whose aim is to develop the underlying technology for digital libraries and make it available publicly so that others can use it to create their own collections.

Website provides access to several large document collections including humanitarian and development information. Scroll down to “humanitarian and UN collections” which includes the WHO –PAO Disaster Virtual Library and numerous other libraries. Links to guides and manuals on health, medical, food, water, nutrition, and development are downloadable. Search by subject, title, or organization.

Website offers access to factsheets, annual reports, project reports, information about missions, Field Operations Guide for Disaster Assessment and Response, Mitigation Practitioner’s Handbook and OFDA Grant Proposal Guidelines.

RedR (originally Registered Engineers for Disaster Relief) an international NGO with offices in London, Canberra, Auckland and Geneva - relieves suffering in disasters by selecting, training and providing competent and effective personnel to humanitarian aid agencies world-wide.

Website includes information about RedR, their programs, activities, and contact information.

Membership is required for direct inquiries but anyone is free to search past communications for information.

ReliefWeb is an electronic clearinghouse for those needing timely information on humanitarian emergencies and natural disasters – designed specifically to help the humanitarian community improve its response to emergencies. 

Searchable website offers daily updates on complex emergencies and natural disasters, and has extensive country background information. Large Directory of Humanitarian agencies provides contact information and websites for UN agencies, Governmental organizations, NGOs, academic and resource organizations. Library provides an online archive of humanitarian, human rights and development reference documents related to crisis situations and humanitarian response.

Search by organization, date, country, or keyword. Keywords include refugee, emergency management, shelter/site planning, logistics, early warning, and coordination. Links to other training databases and funding resources are also available.

http://www.reliefweb.int/hcic/ Humanitarian Community Information Center (HCIC) promotes and facilitates coordination by serving as an information focal point for local and international NGOs, UN and other inter-governmental agencies, donors and KFOR for Kosovo relief operations. Their website offers information on a variety of topics related to the Kosovar effort including access to their GIS/Map and Data coordination unit, which provides information on pcodes, GIS and other map technologies.

Includes an introduction to general information on emergency telecommunications and links. Operational and technical information includes manuals, documents, reports, and links to related sites and suppliers. Trainings provides information on different trainings, conferences, and provides access to training manuals (some on line, others are orderable).

UNHCR is mandated by the United Nations to lead and coordinate international action for the world-wide protection of refugees and the resolution of refugee problems.

Web site provides information about UNHCR, programs, and activities; as well as general refugee information and news. The website is worth browsing on one’s own and the home page is pretty descriptive for its categories.

The world offers map and text-based access to country-specific information about refugees. Issues offers a topic-specific route to articles about refugee children, the environment, women's issues. Evaluation and Policy Analysis offers access to UNHCR reports that can be searched by country, theme, or date. Statistics related to crisis situations and UNHCR and partner efforts are also available.
