The Overseas Development Institute is a leading independent think-tank on international development and humanitarian issues in Britain.

Website provides access to information about the Institute, research and policy programs, and publications. Many subjects covered including human rights, staff security, education, health and nutrition, and management. The site is searchable and maintains a good links directory. The Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG) (located on home page) concerns policy and practice in the response to conflict, instability, disasters and associated humanitarian needs. HPG offers access to the pages below as well as other publications, activities, and links.

http://www.alnap.org The Active Learning Network on Accountability and Performance in Humanitarian Action falls under the management of the HPG. Link offers access to work plan, handbook, and other publications.

http://www.odihpn.org/ Humanitarian Practice Network, also under HPG, offers an extensive link library, details of forthcoming conferences and workshops, and training and degree courses relevant to the humanitarian sector. Publications page offers all HPN articles from 1994 onwards, together with full-text versions of Network Papers and abstracts (full texts are orderable) of Good Practice Reviews. The Good Practice Reviews are commissioned reviews prepared by recognized specialists on different sectors (water, health, planning, security, food, registration) or activities within the humanitarian sector.

RedR (originally Registered Engineers for Disaster Relief) an international NGO with offices in London, Canberra, Auckland and Geneva - relieves suffering in disasters by selecting, training and providing competent and effective personnel to humanitarian aid agencies world-wide.

Website includes information about RedR, their programs, activities, and contact information.

Resources provides access to their needs assessment service, publications (guidelines to water, sanitation, and health concerns), on-line London library catalogue, and RedR forms. Links to Useful Websites under Resources provides lists of sites for technical support, training providers, security references, and many other disaster related sites.

Training provides information on a wide variety of technical, logistical, and managerial training programs with RedR and other agencies.

Members provides access to links page on Equipment Suppliers and Technical Support. Technical support contains archives to past questions on water sanitation / water sources and supply / construction / and a general category. Membership is required for direct inquiries but anyone is free to search past communications for information.






Refugee Studies Centre

The Refugee Studies Centre (RSC) is part of the University of Oxford's International Development Centre at Queen Elizabeth House. Its objectives are to carry out multidisciplinary research and teaching on the causes and consequences of forced migration; to disseminate the results of that research to policy makers and practitioners, as well as within the academic community; and to understand the experience of forced migration from the point of view of the affected populations.

Large Directory of Humanitarian agencies provides contact information and websites for UN agencies, Governmental organizations, NGOs, academic and resource organizations. Library provides an online archive of humanitarian, human rights and development reference documents related to crisis situations and humanitarian response.

Their website offers information on a variety of topics related to the Kosovar effort including access to their GIS/Map and Data coordination unit, which provides information on pcodes, GIS and other map technologies.
