The Basics of International Humanitarian Response Regional Centre for Emergency Training in International Humanitarian Response

Description This is a two-week training workshop on an introduction to the basics of international humanitarian response, adapted from the UNHCR Emergency Management Training Programme (EMTP) Workshop which has been continuously organized for the benefit of its staff since its first introduction in 1985. The objectives of this core training workshop are to acquaint the participants with the purpose and goals of emergency management, illustrate the needs for general management skills and demonstrate specific applications of emergency management skills in priority areas such as planning, logistics, health, water/sanitation, shelter and nutrition, as well as to offer the opportunity to exchange experience and lessons learned.

  • NGOs community within Asia & Pacific regions

Format

Workshop, Lecture
The training will be residential. In addition to the standard lecture format, training methods include case studies, problem-solving exercises, group discussions, films, and a review of current emergency literature. Each exercise includes a one-day simulation of a refugee emergency.

1 Workshop sessions are planned annually being held at a venue in a selected country within Asia & Pacific region.
